Ambien - Zolpidem is a hypnotic drug from the group of imidazopiridins, which is used to treat sleep disorders of various etiologies.
Scientists claim, that like any other hypnotic drugs, Ambien is contraindicated for use in I trimester of pregnancy. In the III trimester of pregnancy, the drug can be used in minimal doses, because the application of benzodiazepines and similar drugs in high doses on the late period of pregnancy may cause hypotension, hypothermia and respiratory distress syndrome in newborn, and in a few days after birth, the development of withdrawal syndrome in newborn. Concentration of Ambien in female milk is low, but if you must use Ambien during lactation you should stop breastfeeding for the treatment period. In experimental studies there have not been found teratogenic effects of the drug.
Thus, to take Ambien while pregnancy or not depends on you. But if it’s possible, try to wait that period or use other more sparing methods, like herb tea or walks on fresh air before sleep.
